On Saturday night Floyd Mayweather raised quite a few eyebrows when he mentioned he's been in talks with Showtime and CBS about the possibility of coming out of retirement.  Mayweather mentioned that he would need a championship fight and a nine-figure ($100 million) payday.  At 49-0, Mayweather's 50th fight and possible win would have to be against someone huge.  The name most people want to see is Gennady Golovkin aka Triple G (35-0, 32 KOs), the current unified WBA, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion.

Golovkin is considered by most to be a fighting machine with vicious knockouts, but there have been complaints that he hasn't faced any real competition.  His camp has been in talks to fight Canelo Alvarez but apparently Canelo's team is the cause of the holdup (depending on who you believe).  While we wait for that fight to happen (and it would be huge), if he were to fight Mayweather, that would be even bigger.  Golovkin himself has said that he would rather fight Mayweather.  Along with the challenge, going up against Mayweather gives boxers a bigger payday than fighting anyone else in the sport.  The issue is, the fight weight.

The agreed upon weight has also been a cause for discrepancy in the Canelo/Golovkin talks, but would present more of an issue for Mayweather.  On Saturday night during an interview with Showtime, Mayweather honestly answered why he wouldn't fight Golovkin.

"Well Triple G, I think it's best that he go up and fight Andre Ward.  You know I think that would be a good fight for Triple G, Andre Ward, that's a good matchup.  You know, how can Floyd Mayweather fight at 160 and I could never even make 154?  Danny Garcia, another name, undefeated prospect, undefeated champion, in two different classes, very exciting fighter, you just never know."

There's been murmurs that Triple G is ducking Andre Ward but that's another story I won't get into here.

It sounds like Mayweather is leaning towards fighting Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) if he decides to come out of retirement.  Although many would rather see Floyd go up against Gennady, this really isn’t a bad fight either.
