Apparently this week, social media was a source of contention for many NFL draft hopefuls. In addition to Laremy Tunsil losing out on $7 million dollars after an incriminating video of him smoking marijuana with a gas mask on, resulted in him being the No.13 pick versus No.6. Eagles draft pick, Wendell Smallwood is feeling the burn a bit after trolls dug up an old tweet of him dissing Philadelphia natives.

Last week, the Philadelphia Eagles selected West Virginia running back Wendell Smallwood in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, No.153 overall. While this no doubt was probably one of the best days of the young man’s life, a dark cloud soon arrived as an old tweet of him gay bashing Philly residents five years ago surfaced.

According to reports, the now 22-year-old tweeted the offensive comment when he was merely 17 years-old. To rectify the issue, Smallwood deleted his account in entirety. Smallwood is definitely not the first to pay for the sins of his reckless tweeting past. Other notable athletes such as Kevin Durant and Damian Lillard have also been blasted for tweets from their past.

Check out Smallwood’s tweet, and the Philadelphia Eagle’s response to the drama above.
