Doc Rivers has made historic strides for the historically challenged, Los Angeles Clippers, franchise since boosting their starting line-up with young stars like Chris Paul and Jamal Crawford. However, they have faced significant pitfalls in the post season keeping the team from advancing beyond the second round. The Clippers are currently facing elimination in their first round playoff series against the Portland Trailblazers. With the Clippers leading scorers, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, out for the rest of the season the team is reasonably frustrated.

Before Wednesday’s loss, Rivers sat down to address the team’s uncertain future during yesterday’s pre-game interview.  When a reporter asked River’s about a person that keeps him focused and encouraged, he began to tear saying, “I don’t know.” Further clarifying his emotional response saying, “I’m not crying over being discouraged." He continued saying, “he made me think about my mom. That would have been the person.”  River’s mother, Betty, passed away in June of 2015 seemingly leaving a void in the coach’s support system.

In Game 5 at Staples Center, the Portland Trailblazers defeated the Clippers, 108-98 taking a 3-2 series lead with Game 6 on Friday at Portland.
