On April 20, former WWE superstar Joanie “Chyna” Laurer was found dead in her California house. For those who don’t know, while in the WWE, Chyna was the only woman to hold the Intercontinental Championship in the company’s history. From there, her career spanned to pro wrestling in Japan, to TNA Wrestling, and even adult movies.

At the time of her death, there was no specified cause of the 45-year-old’s death. Previously, Chyna faced issues of substance abuse and was taking steps to change her life. She made an appearance on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, where she mentioned her issues with alcohol and drugs, alongside her mental health problems.

Now, according to her manager Anthony Anzaldo, Chyna “accidentally and unintentionally misused her legally prescribed medication over the course of 2-3 weeks.” The manager also went on to call it an “epidemic.” In a statement made to the Los Angeles Times, Anzaldo said that Chyna’s passing was not a result of her succumbing to addiction. The manager also noted that the drugs Chyna had in her possession were legally prescribed, but she “wasn’t using them properly.” He also stated, “You are not going to find 60 pills in her stomach.”

According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, no official cause of death has been determined yet. The investigation into her death is currently underway, and an official report will be released once the coroner reaches the final conclusion for the cause of death.
