Actor Columbus Short rose to fame quickly as a background singer turned actor in the sleeper hit “Stomp the Yard” and most notably as Olivia Pope’s right-hand man in ABC’s groundbreaking drama Scandal. But the Hollywood lifestyle proved too much for the young star after he was fired from the show following multiple drug induced episodes of erratic behavior on and off set. Since, his unfortunate exit from the Shonda Rimes produced show, Short has been largely absent from the spotlight.

On Tuesday (April 26th), Short tested positive for cocaine and marijuana use possibly triggering a probation violation in a felony assault case. Short was sentenced to three years of supervised probation after pleading no contest to felony assault in September of 2015. The charged stemmed from physical altercation during a family gathering that left one man with a concussion and fractured eye socket. Along with probation, Short was sentenced to anger management counseling and 60 days of community service.

Short’s lawyer, Ludlow B. Creary II, did not provide an official statement on the failed drug tests from the actor but she has high hopes for the actor saying, “It’s our belief that Mr. Short is going to continue to make progress”.  Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Leslie E. Brown ordered the embattled actor to appear in court on May 9th.
