Famed tennis star Maria Sharapova made an announcement on Monday (March 7), revealing that she tested positive for meldonium, a recently banned drug in tennis. The five-time grand champion and world's highest paid female athlete explained that the tennis antidoping program confirmed the positive test on January 26, the same day she lost to Serena Williams in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open.

Following the news, Nike announced that they would be suspending their contract with the 28-year-old tennis star while the investigation continues. Sharapova signed an eight-year extension with Nike in 2010, which The New York Times reported could be worth $70 million.
