Two Maryland sheriff's deputies were shot and killed by a suspect who was later killed by police. According to several reports, the sheriff's office was called to Panera Bread in Abingdon after having an issue with the suspect. An eye witness revealed that a deputy was sitting next to the suspect, who pulled out a gun and shot the deputy without warning. The suspect then fled and was found at the bottom of a hill by another deputy who was shot by the suspect.

The gunman, who was later identified as 67-year-old David Bryan Evans, was killed during a standoff with police. The identities of the deputies has yet to be released, but Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler revealed that the slain deputies had 30 and 16 years on the force.
