A crane incident in Lower Manhattan left one man dead and four injured as it slammed down onto a row of parked cars early Friday morning. Around 8:30 a.m. the crane capsized onto Worth St. near Church St. as thousands made their way to work in the snow. 38-year-old David Wichs from the Upper West Side died at the scene while passenger Thomas O'Brien, 73, survived with a serious head injury.

Sources say the wind - which reached up to 20 mph - ultimately caused the fall as the crane workers were lowering the machine to secure it. "This is a very, very sad incident, we lost a life. But if you go out into the street as I did and see what happened here, thank God it was not worse," stated Mayor de Blasio during a press conference.
