Famed Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson announced on Wednesday (Feb. 3) that he is running for mayor of Baltimore. Mckesson arrived one hour before the 9 pm ET deadline to enter his name in the race, and the moment was photographed by Baltimore Sun politics reporter Luke Broadwater.
Deray explained his decision to run in an in-depth piece for Medium.com, where he explained, "I am not the silver bullet for the challenges of our city — no one individual is. But together, with the right ideas, the right passion, the right people, we can take this city in a new direction."
