Saturday (Jan. 16), a state of emergency was declared in Michigan by President Barack Obama. There are major concerns in Flint, Michigan after its water supply became contaminated with lead due to human error. Now, Obama has asked Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help with the disastrous event. In a statement, the White House said they are trying to, "lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in Genesee County."

While a pipeline to Lake Huron is under construction, Flint's water supply was switched to the Flint River from the Detroit water system in 2014. The move reportedly saved the city $12 million a year. The city populated with about 99,000 people are now worried that the corrosive water supply have caused lead from buildings to appear in the water system.
