Thursday (Jan. 14), rapper and actor Mos Def, also known as Yasiin Bey, was arrested in South Africa for violating local immigrations laws. The entertainer's representative told OkayAfrica that the 42-year-old, who is currently producing and acting in a few films in South Africa, was booked to perform at Ethiopia's Selam Music Festival on the 10th. "Their allegations are wrong. He attempted to leave the country for a professional commitment and was denied the ability to board an airplane after providing his World Passport." While given 14-days to leave the African country, his rep says Mos Def believed he was allowed to use his World Passport - which is "in support of the UN Declaration of Human Rights" - without having to use his US passport over social and political reasons.
