Update 12/11/2015 1:10 A.M.

Earlier this week Chance the Rapper said that Chicago is not supporting Spike Lee's controversial new film, "Chiraq," and the famed director has responded. Spike recently sat down for an interview with MSNBC's Chris Hayes , and he claimed that Chance's father works for Rahm Emanuel, the Mayor of Chicago.

Spike explained, "First of all, Chance the Rapper which we'll say full disclosure; his father works for the mayor. He's the chief of the staff–whatever the title is. His father is the chief of staff. Show me any criticism, if you're so concerned about Chicago...do your research: show me where he's made any criticism about the mayor. I think your findings will be surprising. Why? His father works for the mayor!"

Chance, born Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, is the son of Ken Bennett, who works as the deputy chief of staff for Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and his mother, Lisa, is the director of community relations for the Illinois attorney general.

While Chance called Spike Lee's new film "exploitive and problematic," the director pointed to Jennifer Hudson's involvement in the film, "Jennifer Hudson is in the film; she plays a pivotal role. Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew in Chicago. If what Chance the Rapper is saying is true, why would Jennifer be in the film?"

Plenty of Chicago rappers have voiced their displeasure with Spike Lee's latest fim Chiraq, including Chance The Rapper, who took to Twitter to share his thoughts. He started out by saying, "Let me be the one from Chicago to personally tell you we not supporting this film out here."

He added, "That s*** get ZERO love out here. S*** is goofy and it's a bunch of ppl from NOT around here telling u to support that s***. The people that made that s*** didn't do so to "Save Lives". It's exploitative and problematic. Also the idea that women abstaining from sex would stop murders is offensive and a slap in the face to any mother that lost a child here."

Other rappers who have publicly shared their opinion include Chief Keef, Lil Bibby, and Rhymefest, who said Spike Lee owed the city an apology.
