Tom Burke, the police chief for Farrell, PA resigned after one week of being sworn in when an email containing the n-word was leaked to the public.

The email was sent to several members of the parent-teacher organization of Sharon, PA, where he retired as police chief in 2007. Burke wrote,  "Good morning. Please click and review. Even $1.00 will be greatly appreciated. Them Sharon n****s gotta learn how to read."

Burke was sworn in as Farrell police chief on Nov. 17, and Farrell City Manager Michael Ceci said he wouldn't have hired him if he knew about the email, and Farrell Mayor Olive McKeithan asked Burke to step down on Wednesday. McKeithan, who is black, initially supported Burke after the email leaked, but she eventually changed her mind, adding, "I've had a lot of nasty phone calls from people in town and out of town."

You can listen to Burke's apology above.
