The wife of Jason Van Dyke, the Chicago officer charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 14-year-old Laquan McDonald, set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her husband's bond. The "JVD Bond Fund" has since been taken down, but it managed to raise $10,000 from more than 200 donors.

The page used Van Dyke's initials instead of his full name and described him as "a highly decorated and respected officer," and she added, "He was in a shooting that has been covered extensively by the media and we ask for your patience for all the facts to come out in the trial. We want him to be home with his family as we go through this judicial process."

Kelsea Little, GoFundMe's media director, told the NY Daily News that the page was taken down for violating terms of the website, "GoFundMe does not accept campaigns for the defense or support of anyone alleged to be involved in criminal activity." She added that all donations will be returned.
