A 14-year-old high school student claims a school resource officer used excessive force while talking to him about a fight he had with another student.

Gyasi Hughes, a sophomore at Round Rock High School, can be seen speaking with officers in a cell phone video shot by another student. When Hughes starts to put his backpack on, the officer grabs the teen around the neck and slammed him to the ground.

Hughes' father spoke to KXAN-TV in Austin, telling them, "The police officer that was actually in this particular situation, he should have been trained well enough to know that this is a 130-pound child and that the action that was taken was totally unnecessary."

The school also released a statement from their point of view, explaining that the officers were trying to calm down Hughes after a fight with another student over a pair of prescriptive athletic eye wear that weren't returned by a friend. They claim that the teen tried to get around the officers to continue the fight with the other student, which is when they intervened.
