Armed police drones have now been made legal in North Dakota, but the law limits the exact weapons permitted. While lethal weapons like guns aren't permitted, tear gas, rubber bullets, beanbags, pepper spray and Tasers are all allowed to be used via drone.

The bill originally was just supposed to be in favor of police getting a search warrant to use the drones during an investigation, but Rep. Rick Becker had to compromise on the weapons issue.

Becker told Arstechnica, "I submitted with prohibition of any weapons. The law enforcement lobby offered an amendment and said that if the amendments were added, they would not oppose. The committee accepted amendments and I didn't fight them because I wanted the bill to pass at least to require warrants. The law says that law enforcement can't use drones weaponized with lethal weapons.'"

Do you think this will pass in other states?
