Popular Simi Valley High School football coach Otis Newell was fired from his job after another coach saw his new music video for a song called "U Need It, I Got It." The track featured heavy references to drug use and sales, but Newell insists that he was using his life story as a way to keep kids off the streets and away from drugs.
Newell, who goes by "Big Pho," can be heard rapping, "I stay with the product/Got coke, drank, pills, dope and marijuana...Don't matter how I get it, do my dirt while I'm in private/If you playing games with me/Cut your life, Lorena Bobbitt."
The Simi Valley Unified School District said Newell's "ethics, morals, and character as a human being are not being questioned," but they added that they could not support the views depicted in the video.
An email to the 10-year veteran coach read, "Although the music video and song lyrics are not reflective of how you are currently living your life as a husband, father, or coach, the images and activities portrayed in the video are ones we cannot support. Therefore, reinstating you as a football coach with Simi Valley Unified is not possible," the email continued. "We do wish you the best of luck with your personal and professional endeavors moving forward."
