Thanks to police body cams, a cop has been indicted on murder charges after being seen shooting an unarmed Black man in the head during a routine traffic stop.
On July 19, 43-year-old Samuel Dubose - a father of 10 - was stopped by University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing near the campus due to his car missing a front license plate. Tensing questioned Dubose about his license several times before Dubose allegedly tried to drag the officer by speeding off. Moments later, Tensing shot him once in the head after yelling at him to stop. "I almost got run over by the car," Tensing was heard saying in an audio recording "He took off on me. I discharged one round. Shot the man in the head."
County prosecutor Joseph T. Deters says the killing is "the most asinine act I've ever seen a police officer make, totally unwarranted." "He purposely killed him. He should never have been a police officer." During the press conference, Deters was also heard saying it was a "chicken crap" traffic stop as he met with Dubose's family. "I feel so sorry for this family and what they lost," he said. "And I feel sorry for the community, too."
