Serayah McNeill, who plays Tiana Brown on Empire, spoke to VladTV about her thoughts on the show featuring homosexual storylines. She explained that the specific storyline of Lucious Lyon not accepting his son Jamal being gay is something that many in the LGBTQ community can relate to.
During the sit-down Serayah spoke about her experiences with Caribbean people being obsessed with Empire during her visits, despite past incidences of open homophobia in the countries. She then added that the Caribbean people that she met were more excited about the show than the fans she met in America.
