After only 12 hours of deliberation by the jurors, Colorado killer James E. Holmes was found guilty on 165 counts of murder and attempted murder late yesterday (July 16).

On July 20, 2012, Holmes - clad in bullet-proof armor and a gas mask - walked into a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" and opened fire in an Aurora theater, killing 12 people and injuring 70 others. He also rigged his home in hopes that the police would be killed by the explosives upon entering. Though the court once accepted his insanity plea, the jurors ultimately decided that Holmes was indeed sane when he proceeded to go through with the well thought-out massacre.

Many were surprised by the jurors swift decision, as they only took two days to reach a verdict. James Holmes now faces the death penalty, given the jurors reach a unanimous verdict during the next phase of the trial.

"Justice is here," said Jansen Young. Young's boyfriend, Jon Blunk, 26, was killed as he tried to protect her. "This is a huge step forward today."
