According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, New York Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul had his index finger amputated following a July 4th accident involving fireworks, and the reporter included a photo of medical charts from the amputation on Twitter.

Pierre-Paul reportedly had burns on his palms and three fingers, as well as nerve damage to another, believed to be his index finger.

Ian Rapoport, a reporter for NFL.com, wrote that Jason chose to amputate his finger, believing that it would accelerate his recovery, which could be as soon as two months.

ESPN also points out that the Giants put a franchise tag on Pierre-Paul, which he never signed, as he was reportedly holding out for a long-term deal. Now, the 26-year-old athlete could be without a contract if the Giants decide to pull the offer.
