Lil Durk's certainly one of the most influential names in the new breed of Chi-town emcees, and during a recent chat with HipHopDX at the Essence Music Festival, the 22-year-old spitter gave his opinion that the strong hip-hop presence coming out of Chicago right now is contributing to a reduced murder rate in the violence-plagued city.

"It's definitely slowing down," he told the site. "Ain't no murders going to stop 100 percent but it definitely slowing down from what it was. It's definitely a blessing to be a part of Chicago."

"The [whole reason] the Chicago movement is slowing down, the murder rate [is because we're] being positive and being able to make it out of Chicago," he said. "I just think I'm a big voice in Chicago that speaks to everybody, especially the kids."

Do you agree with Durk's assessment?
