Michael Sam's Canadian Football League team has mixed feeling about the player and his place on the Montreal Alouettes, TMZ Sports reports.

Several members of the team, who stayed anonymous claim the constant attention around the 25-year-old player has caused rifts among Sam and his teammates. They've also called him a distraction, but is worried their critiques on Sam would bring backlash.

After signing a one year deal with the team for $100,000, the player took a brief leave of absence for two weeks last month. He recently returned after battling an unknown illness. Part of his deal with the CFL includes a $150,000 option for 2016.

General manager Jim Popp told reporters this week he wasn't aware of any quarrels happening with Sam and his teammates.

"There's nothing to tell you," he said. "He wanted to go home, and that's what he did. I don't know why. When a guy wants to go home, they go home. He had some personal things to take care of."
