An investigation has been launched after a disturbing sign was seen inside of a Baltimore police transporter van, ABC News reports.

A photographer snapped the photo above on Tuesday and was later handed over Freddie Gray's family. Gray, 25, was killed in the hands of six police officers after was was arrested under weapon suspicions. All six police officers have been incided on charges connected to his death.

The sign which reads, "Enjoy Your Ride, Cuz We Will" was addressed by Gray's family lawyer, William "Billy" Murphy, Jr.

"This sign is yet more proof that the Baltimore City Police Department is in need of serious investigation, oversight and reform," Murphy, Jr. said. "While we wait on the Department of Justice to do this very thing, our response as a united community should be patience and calm."

An autopsy determined that Gray died of high-impact injury since he wasn't transported securely in the van.

Baltimore police released a statement on the incident. While they didn't acknowledge if they were aware about the sign's history or if it was also in the van Gray was transported in, they claim the wording was highly inappropriate.

The sign's authenticity has been confirmed by the city's police, which told ABC News in a statement that the department has launched an internal investigation.

"The nature and the posting of wording in one of our transport vehicles is both concerning and unacceptable," Baltimore Police Department Ret. Rashawn Strong said. "We have recently become aware of the wording and have begun an internal investigation to determine all the circumstances surrounding its placement and to identify the person or persons responsible for its posting. This is an incident that is being taken very seriously."
