Plaxico Burress was facing 10 years in prison for two charges after failing to pay a $48,000 tax bill, but the former Giants wide receiver will spend no time behind bars after striking a deal.
According to TMZ, Burress will cut a check for the amount he owes, which he claims was all a big misunderstanding. Plaxico has stood by his story that he satisfied the bill after filing online, and he added that he had no intention of ripping off the IRS.
Plaxico's rep spoke out on the newly reached agreement, "A tentative agreement has been made to satisfy the tax obligations for Plaxico. We have been overwhelmed by the support and workability of all government agencies from the county all the way up to the state and federal offices.
The rep added, "We hope to have everything buttoned up as soon as possible. We look forward to looking at this through the rear view mirror."
