"I'm not really too concerned with the politics of my ethnicity or anything, I'm just trying to pay homage to the culture and just try[ing] to do the best music I can do."

When it comes to Vancouver-based Canadian rapper SonReal, there's a lot more than meets the eye. Often referred to as the "Vancouver Drake," SonReal refuses to dwell on the fact that some may look at him as just another White rapper -- right now he's more focused on putting his hometown on the map in the post-Macklemore era now that the "talking point of Canada," Drake, has helped shed light on Canadian artists.

SonReal - who cites Stevie Wonder as one of his favorite musical artists  - says "it's a new time in rap" and with viral hits like "Preach" it won't be too long before he'll stop being compared to Canadian rap greats.

Watch on as he discusses artists from his native land and how he plans on developing a distinct Vancouver sound in this exclusive clip.
