Michael Sam is returning to the gridiron, as ESPN is reporting that the the first openly gay player in the NFL has been signed to the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes for a two-year contract.

Alouettes general manager Jim Popp said via press release, "With the signing of Michael Sam, we have become a better organization today," adding, "Not only have we added an outstanding football player, we have added even a better person that brings dignity, character, and heart to our team."

"I am very excited and proud to join the Montreal Alouettes," Sam said in his own statement. "I cannot wait to put on the pads, get back on the field and work hard each and every day with my teammates to bring a Grey Cup to the great fans here in Montreal."

Michael Sam was the first openly gay football player drafted into the NFL. Back in 2014, Sam was drafted by the Rams; however, he was cut from the team, but as a free agent the Dallas Cowboys expressed interest and picked up the acclaimed defensive end, though he was released from the team's practice squad in October of last year.

Good luck to Michael Sam. Do you think he'll have a better career in the CFL?
