On Wednesday, Feb. 18, a former SNL member revealed via Twitter that Eddie Murphy was confirmed to do a Bill Cosby impression during Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary show. The celebrated comedian turned down the assignment, and the source claims that Murphy declined to "kick" Cosby "when he was down."

"Celebrity Jeopardy" was the proposed skit in which Murphy was slated to portray Bill Cosby, and Canadian comedian and SNL alum Norm Macdonald revealed in a tweet that "Potent Potables," alluding to Cosby's alleged date rape accusations, was going to be the name of one of the categories. However, on the day of the show Murphy decided against it.

Speaking through an appointed spokesman, Bill Cosby expressed, "I am very appreciative of Eddie and I applaud his actions,"  NBC News reports.
