The Jacka, the legendary Oakland rapper from the group Mob Figaz, was tragically shot and killed in East Oakland on Monday night, February 2nd.

Multiple shots rang out around 8:15 p.m. on MacArthur Boulevard near 94th Avenue in the Eastmont neighborhood of Oakland, according to various witnesses.  It has not been revealed how many times Jacka was struck, nor have any suspects been identified or apprehended at this time.

Jacka, legal name Dominic Newton, was born in Pittsburg, California. After converting to Islam at an early age, Jacka changed his name to Shaheed Akbar.  He began his rap career with the renowned rap crew Mob Figaz, which released their first album, C-Bo's Mob Figaz, back in 1999.  Prior to his untimely demise, Jacka and Freeway linked up and recorded a joint album titled Highway Robbery, and also discussed their project and Muslim faith with VladTV.  Highway Robbery is currently available on iTunes, which can be purchased here.
