Adrian Peterson could reach a potential plea deal as soon as Tuesday for his child-abuse case earlier this fall.

According to ESPN, Peterson is facing a felony count of reckless injury to a child for beating his son with a switch in September. Photos and text messages were leaked to the public, making the case a national headline for the Minnesota Vikings star. After uproar from critics and the media, the NFL removed the player from the Vikings roster, and he was placed on the league's Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list.

If the player reaches a plea deal this week on the case, Peterson might have a chance of being removed from the exempt list.

As of today, sources say the NFL plans to keep Peterson on the list until the case is settled. If convicted of the charges, the player faces two years in prison and a $10,000 fine. With talks of a plea, Peterson can avoid jail time and a Dec. 1 court date. Even though the player isn't on the field, he continues to receive his $11.75 million salary this season.
