Thomas Eric Duncan, the Ebola patient who was being treated in isolation in Texas, has died as a result of the illness that has swept the attention of people across the globe. The hospital Duncan was being held at sent out a statement following his death: 

"It is with profound sadness and heartfelt disappointment that we must inform you of the death of Thomas Eric Duncan this morning at 7:51 a.m. Mr. Duncan succumbed to an insidious disease, Ebola. He fought courageously in this battle. Our professionals, the doctors and nurses in the unit, as well as the entire Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas community, are also grieving his passing."

Duncan traveled from his native Liberia to visit family in Texas, and was the first person to be diagnosed with the illness in the United States, and is now the first person to have died from the illness in the U.S. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings assured the public that they were taking steps to prevent others from getting the disease. 

"We will stop the Ebola virus in its tracks from spreading into our community. I want to reinforce to the public, that this was an isolated incident of the Ebola virus; contracted by the individual while residing in another country."
