The world was left in utter shock after video footage was released today, May 12th, showing an uncharacteristically enraged Solange Knowles unloading a ferocious flurry of punches and kicks at none other than her brother-in-law, Jay Z. The incident occurred inside an elevator at a Met Gala after party at the Standard Hotel in New York City last week. The footage clearly shows Beyonce enter the elevator and immediately stand in the corner with her back against the wall, with Jay and Solange following behind her. They were clearly exchanging words with one another prior to entering the elevator.
Within seconds, Solange went absolutely ballistic on Jay Z, firing off wild haymaker punches and kicks at him. Instead of retaliating like some men would do, Hov kept as calm as possible and simply tried to prevent Solange from hitting him any further. The attack lasted for over 3 minutes, which probably felt like the longest elevator ride of Jay Z's life. Luckily for him there was a bodyguard on the elevator with them who was able to restrain Solange and minimize the amount of damage she could throw at Jay.
Given that there is no available audio to go along with the surveillance footage, fans have been left endlessly scratching their heads pondering the various reasons that could've caused Solange to go off on Jay like that. Some people suspect that this might actually happen more frequently behind closed doors given that Beyonce stayed out of the altercation almost entirely and neither she nor Jay seemed to be at all surprised by Solange's outburst. Others threw out theories of infidelity, or even domestic abuse, which might've caused Solange to step up in Jay's face in defense of her sister Beyonce.
The many fan-created theories behind the family beef spawned the #WhatJayZSaidToSolange topic, which was the top trending topic in the United States for a large portion of the day.
