News broke shortly after 2 p.m. today, April 29th, that Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was dealt the ultimate punishment from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Audio released to the public of Sterling speaking negatively about minorities was the reason for the punishment, and the fact that he showed no regret or remorse during the investigation made it easy for Adam Silver to take action.
Sterling has been officially banned from the NBA for life, and also must pay a $2.5 million fine, which is pretty much like a drop in the ocean for Sterling. Silver is also pushing for the other owners to vote to remove him from his position.
Once the news of Sterling's ban spread, Twitter was been bombarded by sports fans speaking out on the matter. In true Twitter fashion, jokes and comical memes have been posted from a very wide variety of users. The hashtag "#bannedforlife" quickly rose to the top spot among the most popular trends in the United States, while others have commented on the $2.5 million fine, and also joked on how the lifetime ban is pointless due to Sterling already being 80 years old.
