According to Baton Rouge WAFB, rapper Lil Boosie was released from the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola Wednesday night.

Angola State Penitentiary Warden Burl Cain confirms the rapper, who is legally named Torrence Hatch, was released at 7:10 p.m. He was transferred to a sheriff's department facility in St. Francisville where family members were waiting for him.

In 2011 Lil Boosie, plead guilty to three counts of conspiring to bring drugs into a penal institution. Judge Mike Erwin sentenced him to eight years in prison.  Investigators said he tried to smuggle drugs into Dixon Correctional Center once and into Angola State Penitentiary twice.

In May of 2012, a jury found Lil Boosie not guilty of first degree murder.  In December of that same year, Boosie's attorneys were able to argue that the drug ring charge was a set up, and according to a news report from the New Orleans' The Times-Picayune, Boosie was expected to be released from prison on August 18, 2014.

That date got pushed up to February, and he ended up being released Wednesday night, March 5th.
