Charlie Clips vs Tsu Surf was the headlining battle at the Smack/URL "Born Legacy" event in Brooklyn on Saturday, December 14th, and it was truly one to remember. VladTV Battle Rap journalist Michael Hughes was on the scene interviewing many battlers present at the event, and caught up with Charlie for an exclusive interview following his victory.
According to many people in attendance, Clips was actually the underdog prior to the battle, as many felt as though Surf was going to repeat his strong performance against Hollow Da Don. However, when the battle began, what took place was the complete opposite. Surf's first round was his strongest, followed by a strong first from Charlie. However, Charlie faded by the end of his round so people could argue that one in Surf's favor. The second round is when the real drama unfolded.
Choking is something that can happen to the best of the best, and it happened to Surf to the shock of everyone in the building. He was able to recover and continue with his round, but none of his bars were really that crowd-pleasing and he got little reaction as a result. Clips turned up and went into overdrive in his second and third round and nearly took the roof off the venue as his punchlines had the crowd erupting into massive cheers and roars.
While Clips was speaking on his obvious victory, fellow battler Ill Will came by and the two exchanged some friendly competitive words in front of our VladTV cameras. Ill Will also had an incredible performance vs B-Magic, as mostly everyone in the crowd felt as though he won their battle, so if Will and Charlie ever meet in the ring it will surely be an epic battle as long as they bring the same heat that they brought to Born Legacy.
