Adrian Peterson's two-year-old son died after the boyfriend of his child's mother, Joseph Patterson, allegedly beat the young boy until he was unconscious. The incident happened on Wednesday night, and Peterson's son never gained consciousness.
According to TMZ, Adrian had only learned that he was the child's father just three months ago when the mother contacted to tell him that she suspected he was the father. Adrian reportedly never questioned the possibility of being the father, he just wanted to help her get answers. After it was later determined that Adrian was in fact the father, he was planning a trip to South Dakota at the end of October to see his son for the first time.
After learning of the child's death, the Vikings running back sent out a message on his Twitter page, thanking his supporters for showing him love during this rough time.
He wrote, "Thank you to my family, my fans and fans of other teams for their support. The NFL is a fraternity of brothers and I am thankful for the tweets, phone calls and text messages from my fellow players. God Bless everyone and thank u so much."
The child's mother has decided to donate his organs to people in need. His name hasn't been released to the media, but the family said it will be released next week.
