Despite already paying back around $970,000 of the taxes she owed to the federal government, Lauryn Hill was officially sentenced to three months in prison. During her statement, Hill claimed she had meant to pay everything back eventually, but was ill-equipped to make the payments after leaving the music business for a while.
If anything good is to come out of this, at least Lauryn will have now plenty of time to write for that new album.
