Former NBA great Dennis Rodman and three members of the Harlem Globetrotters are taking a trip to North Korea to shoot footage for a TV show set to air on HBO in early April.
It's the second trip a high profile American has made to the tumultuous country so far this year, as the executive chairman of Google toured computer labs in Pyongyang during a four-day trip this past January.
The show is being shot by Vice media company, who said they plan to do a little "basketball diplomacy" while there. In addition to a sports camp for children and socializing with the local people, Rodman and company will face off against top North Korean athletes in an exhibition match.
"At a time when tensions between two countries are running high, it's important to keep lines of cultural communication open, no matter how non-traditional those channels may be," said Shane Smith, Vice founder. "It's important to show North Koreans that America is not their enemy, and playing a game we both love is a step in the right direction."
