Shaquille O'Neal unintentionally sparked an anti-gay thread on his Facebook account with a picture of bathroom etiquette. The photo featured a cartoon of a man using the urinal when another man uses the one right next to him, despite many others being open.

Shaq captioned the photo, "This is an automatic fight in my book.......LMFAO," which was meant as a joke and was not poking fun of a specific group. However, some of his Facebook followers took offense to the post, and deemed it as gay hate.

While some respondents said that "He shouldnt [sic] have wandered into a gay bar," referring to Shaq, another said "Glad to know you like to start hate dialogue against gay people shaq just lost a fan here."

Towleroad, a popular gay blog, commented on the situation, saying "Though he may have not intended it, the post, which points out a common men's room faux pas avoided by straight and gay men alike, has encouraged and produced hateful dialogue against the latter."

In the past Shaq has fully stood behind LGBT rights and anti-bullying campaigns, partnering with the NBA and the American Federation of Teachers for GLAAD's "Amplify Your Voice!" PSA in 2011.

Do you think Shaq's post was anti-gay or are people reading too much into it?
